Best Phone Card to Buy to Talk from Italy

Does anyone have a suggestion on what is a good phone card to purchase in order to call within Italy and from Italy to the US. Online, there are so many that it can get confusing. However, I do know you can buy them out there too. Sometimes, I have had a phone card thinking it was a lot of time, only for it to run out quickly. Thanks for any input!

My experience is very limited. I wanted a card in the Cinque Terre, and it ended up that I purchased a card from a store in Riomaggiore - they only offered one kind of card that I could call North America with. Although I do not want to discourage you from researching the better ones, you may end up getting whatever you have to.

Europa, highly recommended by Steves, and one we've found is ideal! The five euro card lasted us two weeks.

I agree, the Europa card is a great calling card to purchase for calls. You can find it at newspaper stands or tabacco stores in Italy. Use your credit card as a last resort - it's very expensive.

Thanks Sam! I take it you mean use the credit card as a last resort to add minutes? Or you mean to buy the card?

Many pay phones have a reader that you just enter your credit card into, and the phone company charges your credit card directly for the call. As has been said, that is a very expensive way to make a call.
