Best parking app

I will be driving and traveling through Tuscany. What is the best parking app to use? Anything else I should know about driving? Thank you!

Do you know about IDP and ZTL? That's all you really need to know. Some communities have their own apps for parking, but I just use the QR code on the sign in that case--I have never downloaded any catch-all apps for travel.

I haven't used it, but Easypark is the "biggest" parking app in Italy.

Can’t see why you’d need an app just to park
Most if not all Tuscan towns have parking lots outside the walls
Park there as you cannot drive into any of the towns
Get your park ticket at the kiosk-they take cards-put the ticket on your dash and go

As above make sure all drivers have an IDP-required by law
Do your homework regarding ZTLs, speed cameras, parking, road signs etc

If you know the places you’ll be visiting, look up parking on Google maps, and bookmark them, before going over. That way you can go straight to them. You may also check whether there are free lots in any of the places. In Spain for example, most small cities, towns, and villages have free lots, but you need to know where they are since they seldom marked.

I use Google Maps or Waze.

Enter PARCHEGGIO in the search box, identify the one that is closest to where you want to walk, then save it, and go.

I also search on Safari or Reddit, and enter "Migliore posto per parcheggiare vicino al centro in ... (name of the town)", which means "best place to park near the city center in...". I enter in Italian because most people who drive to places tend to be Italians, but you can do the same also in English, then look at the results.

Once I decide, I save the place in Google Maps (or Waze), and drive there.

I generally prefer Google Maps in the US, but Italians are addicted to Waze, so Waze gives better advice, especially on the presence of active Speed cameras and Police stops. That is very important, because there are thousands of speed cameras in Tuscany.

An International Driving Permit (IDP) is required by law in Italy (not all EU countries require it) and the fine for not having one is 408€. It is rarely requested by the rental car agency (I've never been asked by the rental agency), however, somehow, I get pulled over by the Carabineri (Police) every year at police blocks, for random checks (Italian police does not need you to do something wrong to stop motorists) and being stopped by police is a rather routine event.

Also be aware that during those stops they usually request to see the ID of passengers as well, if they believe they are foreign, therefore everybody in the car should carry ID (passport). At all Carabinieri stops they always ask for my wife's, but maybe because they think she's an African undocumented migrant, since she is not ethnically of European descent, although she's an Italian citizen as well as American (I guess I look like an Italian human smuggler).

We used Easypark all over Sicily this spring and it was very handy --- we could even add some more money if lunch or whatever was taking longer than we thought it would.
