Several years ago, we visited Herculaneum and loved it. We recently watched a documentary and want to go back. Since we are booked on the “Best of South Italy in 13 Days” tour in September 2024, we thought we might visit Herculaneum on the last day. Per the tour itinerary, we have free time on our last full day in Naples. In the morning we visit Cappella Sansevero and the Naples National Archaeological Museum. Do we have enough free time we have prior to the farewell dinner to make it feasible to take the metro and train to Herculaneum and back to Naples or should we plan to stay an extra day?
