Has anyone been on the RS Best of Sicily tour? I am considering going on the June 5, 2016 tour. Have never been on RS tour before and would appreciate some insight.

Hi canton_kings, I was on the RS Sicily Tour in early May of 2014, and it was terrific. Sicily is so diverse in terms of history and cultures, scenery, cuisines, and on and on. People are very friendly, as is true in most other places I suppose. Our guide and driver were superb. The hotels ranged from very nice to really excellent. I very much enjoy RS tours, but if this is your first, be sure you are comfortable with the nature of the tours -- no grumps policy (go with the flow), pack light and be able to manage your own baggage a few blocks or up a couple flights of stairs when necessary, be ready to walk quite a lot on some days, be on time when the group is on a schedule, etc. My only concern with your schedule is that I know in summer Sicily can get very hot. In early May it was lovely, no complaints at all about the weather, but I'm not sure how much it will begin to heat up by early June.

I would consider the effects of heat. I was just there a week ago (solo travel) it was quite warm. This is a personal preference, but I would not go in summer - aside from the crowds, it is a very sunny place so the sun and heat will really beat on you. Early Spring (or late Fall) seems like a much better time unless heat doesn't bother you.
As far as RS Tours go, I've only been on one to Turkey and really enjoyed it (I was lucky in that it was a very small group of people). The guides were top-notch, and I was able to interact with locals and see the many sites in a more efficient way.

Thanks Agnes and Larry. We do have some concern about the heat and we appreciate your input. We have been to Sicily before but only for a few days and only on a tour that took care of luggage, etc. for you.

I've been to Sicily independently and I've been on RS tours. If you prefer a tour to renting a car and being on your own, RS is a great choice. My trip was in late April-early May and the weather was pleasantly warm and sunny, the wildflowers were absolutely wonderful. The water was too cold for bathing. June would be too hot for me.
