Since BOI begins August 28, will it be very crowded in Venice, etc., of those last few days of the month? Also, does the short time in the dolomites allow time for both Alpe de Suise and Seceda?
And for the BOI in October/November, are the lifts still open to visit these places in the Dolomites?
I did a late September Best of Italy in 2022 and we were in Castelrotto on October 2 and 3. At that time the buses were allowed to drive up to Seiser Alm on Oct 1 so our tour driver took us up there. I do NOT know if that is the case every tour/year. The Seiser Alm Bahn was still running as one of the tour members wound up taking it.
Our group spent most of the day in Seiser Alm. We had a group dinner that night so I expect we went back down about 3P-4P. It looks like we gathered to walk to dinner at 18:40 that day according to the picture of the daily schedule I snapped.
BTW, the year I went some tours stayed up at Compatsch at Seiser Alm and some stayed in Castelrotto.
We were on a Best of Italy in 17 days tour that began September 3, 2025, in Venice. It was still quite crowded and also fairly warm. We left Venice on 9/5 and stayed in Bolzano for two nights. On 9/6 our tour bus drove us to Alpe de Suise and we spent the day there. Everything was open at that time and the weather was fantastic. I would think that they would not have the Dolomites on the tour in Oct/Nov unless most of the lifts are likely to be open? Later, when we got to Rome on 9/17 it was very warm...walking the 6-8 miles that day was sort of tough. Well worth it, but still exhausting due to the extra heat. I thought at the time that going in October might have been better if you are sensitive to warmer weather.
Late-August will definitely be crowded and hot.
