What months are best to avoid tourists and crowds in Rome? Especially to see St Peter’s, the Vatican Museum and the Borghese Galleries.
January and February. Also December outside the Christmas holidays period.

Why? Seems like a perfectly nice helpful post to me.
Reason for report sent to webmaster; they will either yea or nay the post.
I also thought it sounded odd enough that I looked at the poster's other two posts --- it's so hard to tell sometimes if something is written by AI or just someone who writes in that impersonal style.
We used to visit Rome in January and I thought that was an ideal time to be in the city. The weather was usually excellent, never cold (no jacket on many days) and there were far fewer tourists than I've encountered during other months. The downside is that some restaurants are closed for holiday. Countering that, January is one of the two months in which many stores advertise "saldi," or sales. You can find some great discounts if you are a shopper.
I think the sales begin after January 6 but you'd have to check that if you are interested. And prepare for long lines to enter many shops!
Thanks all -- I've been focusing on January so I'm happy to hear that that is a viable option. A few years ago, a hotel owner told me that November is also a good time to visit. That's appealing since some of the Christmas decorations may perhaps be up already!?
I don't know (although someone here should) about November but I would certainly go to Rome during that month--the latter the better. Early December, too. But we were so happy that we chose January for all of our visits going back a few years ago. It's another, more lovable,, city when you are not sharing sidewalks and attractions with so many others. There were days in January when Ii walked around in shirtsleeves. I think that would be my favorite month in Rome.
I would not go there from early May through late September anymore....IF one has the flexibility to avoid that sttretch of time.
November, December, and January are the months we are most often in Italy, usually for about 5 weeks each time. A few things to know about in Rome. If you are planning to go to Ostia Antica, most of the mosaics will be covered up for the winter (a good idea, but we didn't know about this --- luckily, it was our 2nd visit so we had seen them). When we went to the Vatican museums one January 3rd when they opened in the morning (thinking that the crowds would be less after New Years day), we found that all of the rooms of the museum we came to see were closed. We were told that they were short staffed due to the guards still being on vacation until after the national holiday of Epiphany (January 6th). And the crowding was truly frightening as people raced through the corridors to the Sistine chapel. This might have been just our bad luck that particular year, but perhaps to be safe, schedule your Vatican visit for later in January. Finally, the Borghese limits both the number of visitors and the time they can spend there (unlike the Vatican) so it is definitely likely to be busy but in a manageable way --- do get your reservation in plenty of time because it is very popular and rightly so.
If you could go to Rome in late November the Thanksgiving week is supposed to be a cheap time to fly. Internationally, that is.
