Best month to visit Sicily--September or October?

We arrived in Sicily around 17 October and it was still very, very warm. I would choose October over September.

Hard to predict so far ahead. But generally the beginning of September is hot everywhere in Italy, especially tho south. If you go toward the end of the month then it should be ok.

Early September (2015) was blazing hot. I'd opt for October.

Yes, I would choose October over September but really prefer April or May.

For what it's worth--mid-October 2010 on the eastern coast--Catania to Taormina was 60's mostly, periodic rain, foggy, humid, almost tropical. Still had a great time!

We were there last October 9-21 and the weather was perfect. Mid 70’s every day.

I have only been there in November (think heavy sweater and maybe gloves BUT not all the time). So I'd vote for October if it were me. September in Europe can be awfully iffy at times, weather wise.

September is very hot. October is just hot. End of October would be better.

October - definitely

We went there in late September a few years ago, and it was lovely. Well, my cousin complained it was too hot, but I enjoyed every single day! They say, it's still warm and nice in October, so I think you can go with that option :) Another source claims that September is the best month though...Well, if I were you, I would book a two-week trip in late September and early October :)

Sometimes "best month" depends to a considerable degree on whether you want to spend a lot of time in the water.

we went last October and the weather was beautiful all around the island. It was sunny and mild the whole time.

Thanks again everyone for weighing in with your thoughts! We are planning on 3 weeks in Sicily starting in early Oct. Thinking a circuit of the island possibly starting in Palmero and ending in Catania or vice versa and skipping the A. islands.
