My friend and I are renting a car to travel to Tuscany and then returning the car to the Florence airport. We have rented an apartment in Florence and I am wondering what is the best way to travel from the airport to the apartment. All of the transfer services go to hotels from what I can see. We will have baggage so I don't want anything that requires hauling it around unnecessarily. Thanks.
You answered your own question. A taxi or hired car is almost always the best and most convenient option. If asking for cheapest - that is another question.
Thanks, guys. I had only looked at the transfers that they all seemed to go to hotels only. This eases my stress level a lot! :-)
Taxi is definitely the best option. The airport is only a short distance from Florence so it's not a long (or expensive) trip. As I recall, the drivers have a flat rate for trips to common destinations such as Firenze SMN station (which is higher at night). I'd suggest having the address of the apartment listed in Italian on a slip of paper, which may help the driver.
Public transport alternative: the airport bus runs to the central bus station, near Santa Maria Novella train station, which may or may not be near your apartment, for 6 euros per person. Despite having rental car and taxi available, do try to pack light for those times when you may have to handle your bag on hotel stairs, park outside the historic center of a hilltown, etc.
Tell me the street where your apartment is and the rental car company and I can give you the best option.
