What is the best/preferred Map App for driving in Italy?
Thanks
4 years ago I used both my Garmin and google maps, with very mixed results. I love Waze here in Israel and in the US. I couldn't get it to work in Italy - my fault for not knowing that I had to go into the app settings and click something - I forget now.
I use both Google Maps and Waze. They're not that different. Google owns Waze, so it has brought over a lot of Waze's features to use in Google, like reporting potholes, police ahead, and so on. But I think Google Maps has the edge because you can download the maps and use them without internet if needed.
Waze is the one that all Italians use, so it’s very updated to warn you for police traffic checks and fixed speed cameras.
Google owns Waze, so many warnings are also reported on GoogleMaps now, maybe not as thoroughly.
I’m not a fan of Waze, because the graphics are too busy and it drains your battery in a second if you are not connected and charging, but in Italy I use it for the purpose of warning me of speed cameras, which are ubiquitous and very sneaky.
I do use Google Maps for toll freeway travel. On freeways they use the speed tutor system which basically calculates your average speed in given segments of freeways. Google Maps is good at warning you about the Speed Tutor areas.
