Best location to stay in Rome for 3 nights

Hi all, I am looking for a moderately priced clean and comfortable place to stay in Rome for 3 nights in May. I see so many rave reviews for My Guest Roma, but it seems a bit far away from the action. I would like a place where we can walk out the door and be near cafes, and good places for wandering maybe close to one sight, if this is possible. Can anyone recommend a place or places? It doesn't have to be the cheapest, but not more than $250 US a night would be wonderful (and less even better!).

Renee, this applies to both of your posts. It is possible to get a clean, basic room for 80-90E a night, allowing lots more $ for the fun stuff.

Thanks for the advice! Any recommendations I could look into?

With only 3 nights I agree that you would be wise to stay in a better location than My Guest Roma. I would try to stay near the Piazza Navona or Campo de Fiore areas. Check out Flamini Domus Charming Suites. Its near Campo de Fiore and I have a double in May booked for 120 euro/night. However, the inventory of moderately priced rooms at B&Bs and hotels in the Piazza Navonna or Campo de Fiore areas for this May is probably quite limited by now. You may also want to consider an apartment, where you should still be able to snag a good rate in May. Check out airbnb.com and sleepinitaly.com. I just did a quick search and saw a bunch of apartments still available in the 100 - 130 euro per night range, which is well within the budget you gave.

Try Palazzo Olivia apartments. It's sort of between Piazza Navona and Campo de' Fiori. I haven't stayed there but lots of other people recommend it and it was our #2 choice for our May visit.

Nicolas Inn on Via Cavour fits your need. Close to sites; cafes nearby-price beats your max.

Renee,
I am with Mike on this. Nicholas Inn was fabulous. It was clean and the owners were great at giving advice. Get the info in Rick's Book. You will be within a block of the Forum and Colliseum. I loved the location. Ask for recommendations and Mellissa will give you wonderful mom and pop places to eat with locals. Have a Great Trip and Time in Rome.
