Best location to rent an "apartment" for a week?

Will you have a car? If so, you can get apartments at many agriturismos. That would be "not a city," and very rural. Or if you might choose a smaller town, Umbria and Tuscany abound with options. We liked Montalcino and Orvieto a lot. Orvieto has a cute little B&B that is really a 2 bedroom apartment, B&B Ripa Medici. 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, a common sitting room with a tiny bit of a kitchen. I think the whole thing goes for 150 euros per night. I am certain others on the board can chime in with great agriturismo suggestions, or favorite small towns.

My favorite place in Italy is Sorrento! Lots of great day trips and the incredible Amalfi coast. You won't need a car there - You can take a train, boat, ferry, or a bus to get everywhere.
