We will be spending 4 days in Florence and then heading out to travel around Tuscany and Umbria for a week and a half. We'll be renting a car on the day we leave Florence, and then returning it (back in Florence) the day before we head home. I'm thinking we should pick up and drop off the car from a rental agency in town "Florence via Borgognissanti" instead of at the Florence airport.
I've checked Travelocity and Europcar directly; Europcar seems like a better deal. Thoughts and advice appreciated!

We picked up our car at the Sansovino Hertz location, it was very easy to head out from there.
Do a search - there are lots of posts especially by Roberto that describe all the rental car locations. No need to go to airport.
I would check AutoEurope and I would never rent a European car thru Travelocity.
Rent directly with the agency or thru a well known consolidator such as AutoEurope.

Sansovino Hertz office. You can catch a cab at the train station and it's about 2 miles over there. They can give you instructions on getting out of town avoiding the ZTL's.
You can return it at any Hertz office you wish, including the airport location, if the Sansovino office is closed when you return. AutoEurope often uses that Hertz location, and sometimes they're less expensive than going on Hertz' website. You can join the Hertz Gold Club for free and get a discount on rates.
CDW is required on all Italian car rentals at reasonable rates. Just opt out on any other insurance or other add on charges--like theft insurance on your belongings.
