We are travelling in Italy for three weeks in June - will spend a few days in Rome at the beginning but want only want one night there at the end to catch our flight the next day. Any best bets for staying close to the airport, but still have atmosphere for one last night of soaking up Italian life? (First trip to Rome)
Thanks!
Connected to the airport is The Hilton. Pricy, but worth it because it's so handy! Their food is expensive and is terrible! I still like staying there if it's only one day. They have a huge warm swimming pool that is so wonderful! There wont be any Italian atmosphere for anything near the airport. But I think you will still love it that your almost sleeping in the airport! There is a walkway from the hotel that gets you there. Great for morning flights! Have a great trip!

Depending on the time of your flight, you could stay in Rome for that atmosphere. The airport is pretty dull and expensive.
Did the airport night before the trip home once......never again. There's just no atmosphere, and I never sleep the night before an early flight anyway! Even if we have to take a taxi very early AM, we stay in Rome now, but different strokes!
We had one last good meal, one last stroll...went to bed early.
Here is Ron In Rome's very thorough discussion of the question: http://www.roninrome.com/hotels-spas/hotels-and-bbs-near-the-fco-airport. Note that he agrees with the above posters - for "atmosphere," you need to stay in Rome, not the airport.
Maggie: I try to schedule late morning flights out of Europe so that brings me back to North America direct. Early morning FCO flights are going to another European city where you'll wait until early afternoon for a flight back. I prefer getting up at 7:30 a.m. to make a 11:00 flight, and going out by train. If you have a 6:00 a.m. flight, have your hotel reserve a cab at a proper time to take you directly to the terminal. With relatively little traffic going out early, the trip is pretty fast.
And as always, see RonInRome.com about anything to do with Rome.
