Best Flight Option: Arezzo to Prague

Hello Fellow Travelers -

College aged son is wrapping up a study abroad in Arezzo this July, and needs to reconnect with us in Prague for the end of our trip before flying back to the US.

I am hoping to tap this group's wealth of knowledge/experience about the best ways to move from Arezzo to Prague. I am aware of various train itineraries, but am hoping to get him to Prague in time to join us for dinner.

Criteria:

  1. Available to depart from Arezzo no earlier than noon
  2. Need to bake in enough travel time from Arezzo to departure city via train, accounting for recommended arrival time at airport for short haul flight to Prague

It looks like his best choices are to hop a RyanAir (or other) flight out of Pisa or Bologna. Rome is also an option, but the shorter travel times to the Pisa/Bologna seem preferable to me.

I've never traveled through either Pisa or Bologna airports, and have never flown RyanAir, though we've done EasyJet with no problems (we read the rules and followed).

For those who have used these airports, is there a preferred option? He's fairly seasoned as a traveler, so as long as I don't put him in a bad spot on timing he should be fine.

If there's anything else I am missing, please let me know. Thank you in advance for any advice you've got!

Both airports are fine; small, easy to navigate. I would choose the option that has the better/easier travel from Arezzo, and the better flight. Ryanair will get him there but consider how a delay might affect your plans, as RA can have delays (or I have bad luck). Also buy the appropriate ticket for the type of luggage he has as RA is particular about the size of the carry-on (i.e. make sure, if he has a carry-on, that it fits the dimensions they require).

What date or day of the week is this? There are occasional flights out of Florence and Bologna so the day of the week matters. The day of the week affects flight times out of Pisa since weekdays currently are only very early and weekends have later flights.

If he can't leave Arezzo until after noon I don't see him getting to Prague before dinner time unless the stars really align.
The earliest you can get into Pisa from Arezzo is 3:00 or 3:30 and I don't see any evening flights in April.
Bologna is about the same and Ryan Air only seems to have afternoon/evening flights on Sunday and Thursday.
Florence in closest but only has evening flights on Monday with Volotea.

It looks like he could make Roma Termini by 4:00 or so and another 30 minutes to the airport but I don't see an afternoon nonstop flight from Rome either.

This is a quick check of nonstop flights assuming a stop over after 3:00pm would not get him to Prague in time either. If you can list the date or day of the week it would help but offhand this isn't looking super feasible given the late start time.

Maybe some flight wizards here can find something else but I think he may need to travel to his flight city and then leave early the next day for best results. I think you're being hampered by the lack of a summer flight schedule in April.

Hope this helps, good luck,

@Jessica and @hiredman -

Thank you so much for your prompt, thorough replies. This forum never disappoints!

I'll watch the RyanAir situation on checked bags...we like to use carry ons but accept that this gets tough on some carriers and will probably just prepurchase a checked bag to be safe. It's good to hear that these airports are pretty straightforward.

I'm looking ahead to a Sunday departure in late July. Maybe we'll get lucky on flight schedules - an upside of summer travel I guess. We'll see.

Thank you!!
