What is the best recommended trip cancellation insurance

Do you only need trip cancellation and not health benefits, also? I don't know your age, but just to mention, Medicare will pay or repay Nothing from overseas. Some health plans will repay you, some won't.

The suggestion you got to go to Insuremytrip.com is correct. Compare plans and pick the one that suits you the best.

FYI for each of our three trips to Italy we've bought trip insurance through our own insurance company (USAA) but they outsource it to another company, can't remember the name.

As a rule, we only insure what we cannot cancel for free, which is the overseas air fares and hotels/B&B's/apartments that we have already paid deposits on that we wouldn't easily be able to cancel. If memory serves, it was about $150 for about $5000 of coverage, which sounded OK to me.

However, read the fine print as to what qualifies. With illnesses they can get a little squirrelly.

If all you're looking for is flight cancellation insurance, many airlines offer it at the time you purchase your tickets. I haven't looked into the details of what's covered or how it compares pricewise to other insurance, but that is an option.

There are three types of insurance we look at when we travel. Trip cancellation/trip interruption. Medical insurance. Medical evacuation. Depending on your needs, you may want to look at all of the above or just cancellation insurance. Feel free to ask questions. Most of the forum does not bite. ;-)

Did you (or will you) buy your tickets using a credit card? Some credit cards, particularly the ones oriented toward travel, offer various insurance coverages for free if the trip or part of the trip is charged to their card. I think your first step should be to find out what is already covered by your credit card and then decide if that coverage is adequate for your needs or not.

My friend insured her airfare that was fully refunded by Allianz. She just needed to get the forms completed when her mother was hospitalized. She did not prepay for anything else for that trip.

I get medical insurance and make sure it covers medical evacuation home. My credit card covers my non refundable airfare and any non refundable hotel costs & all other trip related paid in advance costs i put on that card. I use squaremouth that compares various plans.
