Best/fastest way from Cinque Terre to French Riviera - is there a boat/ferry?

Hi, Traveling in May from Rome to Cinque Terre, then on to Nice. Thought taking a boat trip might be nice if it doesn't add too much time. What are recommendations for this trip?

Thanks!

I'm inclined to think the train is your best option (or trains, plural, as there'd be a transfer or two involved). I'm not aware of any ferries between Nice and even, say, Genoa or La Spezia. It's easy enough to get to/from Cinque Terre by train, so your best bet might be to get to La Spezia, take the train from there north, transfer in Ventimiglia, and go from there to Nice.

Edit - Some of the info in this thread may be out of date, but much of it could still be useful (esp. in terms of having to get Regionale service, etc):

I don't think there is any water connection between the Italian and French rivieras. Take the train: connect in Genoa to the Thello train to Nice (how I traveled from the Italian Riviera to Nice a few years ago).

amy,

I've made that trip and it's very easy although it will be a longer travel day. I'm not aware of any boats on that route so train is your best bet. You can use the Bahn.de website to determine trains solutions which will best fit your preferences.

Using Monterosso as an example for the departure, there are numerous trains to Nice Ville. I'd probably use either the 06:54 or 10:55 departures, as they only have one change and are the shortest trips.
