Best express train to take from Rome to Florence

Hi everyone
My travel just asked me which train I would like to take from Rime to Florence in June. We are staying near the Vatican.
She has given me a choice between Rome Tiberni or Rome Tibertina.

I am wondering about safest and most convenient. We are staying at the Grand Hotel Tiberio.

Thank you all in advance for your help! 😊

The stations are actually Termini and Tiburtina. Checking the schedule on the TrenItalia website, direct trains leave only from Termini and take about an hour and a half for the trip.

There are two operators on this route, "Trenitalia", the national operator, and "Italo", the competition.
They both run on the same tracks at the same speed, and compete on price and comfort levels.
They both offer at least one train per hour, so the answer to the "convenient" question is when do you want to travel?
The "safe" question is one people from North America seem pre-programmed to ask, What do you mean by safe? Train is a lot safer than road, and at 200 MPH you don't get people wearing masks standing on the tracks holding up trains.

The main station in Rome is "Roma Termini" and in Florence "Firenze Santa Maria Novella, often abbreviated to Firenze SMN.
I would also expect it to be cheaper to book direct with Trenitalia or Italo than going through a travel agent.

TrenItalia website, direct trains leave only from Termini

Trenitalia trains also depart direct to Firenze S.M. Novella from Tiburtina. Most look to originate at Termini and make a quick stop at Tibr. to pick up more passengers. Same with Italo.

Your hotel isn't really convenient to either but Termini is the closer of the two. How are you planning on traveling to the train station from the hotel?

Also, unless you feel strongly otherwise, have your agent book you in 2nd class: it'll be plenty comfortable for the 90 minutes or less you'll be on the train. It's unsure which he/she is looking at booking but either Trenitalia or Italo trains will be fine and perfectly safe.

Every train departing from Roma Termini going to Florence stops at Tiburtina as well 10 minutes later. Your hotel is somewhat inconveniently located and a taxi will get you to either in about 20-25 min with no traffic. Termini is closer but from your hotel a taxi might be able to go around the Circonvallazione Salaria and get you to Tiburtina just as fast. So You can choose either station. In terms of safety, unless you trip over your luggage and break your leg, you will be safe everywhere.

Too funny and as a response to another post I guess I was preprogrammed to ask. I feel dumb now because I should have realized that 'safe' can be insulting. Sorry everybody. 😕

My travel agent booked Italia second class and Tiberni. Guess we are all ready now! 😎

Thank you everyone!

Actually the closest station to your hotel is Roma S. Pietro.

Roma S. Pietro-Roma Tiburtina

Takes 26 minutes, cost 1 Euro.
Regional train no reservation necessary.

Taxi to station 5 min.

I'm not big on the whole train station thing but Tiburtina was better than what I see in the states. (For first trip last year)Clean, nice food shop with great coffee and desserts. It was easy to find our Italo train to Florence. Taxi rank was easy and had one driver locate a cab when our bags were too large to fit his cab. Leaving for Venice( 2nd trip, open jaw)in two weeks!!!using Italo and Tiburtina again for Rome.

Again, absoluut5, there isn't a station called "Tiberni". There is Termini or Tiburtina. It matters if you have to tell a cab driver (or someone else) where it is you need to go. :O)

You are actually walking distance of Appiano station where there are 3 trains every hour that will get you to Tiburtina station in 33 minutes. Oops, too late now.
