We are 2 older female travelers -- We will be arriving at Florence FLR and then spending our first 3 nights in Siena, followed by 6 nights in Florence.
Without a car (don't really need one) or car transfer (due to cost) - what is the best (least hassle) way to get from FLR to Siena?
Would appreciate hearing about your experiences and recommendations.
I prefer trains to buses just for the ease of boarding etc, and keeping my bag with me. A 15 or 30 minute time difference is not an issue.
Part 2 of my question - are taxi's available at Siena's train station? Our BnB is (way) on the other side of the old center, so we would not walk all that way with luggage anyway. I could not find this mentioned in RS book.
Thanks in advance to all.
Avoiding buses, take a taxi from FLR to the train station (Santa Maria Novella). To get the taxi, turn right when you exit the airport and you'll see the taxis lined up a short distance away. Then the train to Siena. There are some departures (usually :10 past the hour) that don't require changing trains at Empoli. Catching one of these, even if it means waiting a bit, reduces the number of times you'll be slogging your luggage off/on the train. There is the possibility your train will depart from a set of tracks way off to the side of the main grouping of tracks, which can be a bit of a hike, though all flat.
There is a taxi stand in front of the train station (with your back to the station, it's to the left of the main entrance/exit of the train station) but I don't remember how many taxis were there, as I wasn't looking for one.
