Hello its just me and my bff. and we are going end of Sept/October

We are in sorrento for 6 nights, my friends wants to do TOURS to Amalfi/Postino/Revello. and Capri/Grotto and Pompeli.

We will NOT have a car

Im trying to decide if we should do TOURS to those places or just do them on our own, and if we do tours, which ones are the best without feeling like a total dumb tourist ; )

Hello erikamax, and welcome to the forum!

Pompeii is easily reached via train from Sorrento and it drops you practically at the entrance to the ruins. That being said Pompeii is someplace that can really benefit from a guide to provide context and history and more information. Do not underestimate the size of Pompeii and plan a whole day because the site is very large. In the heat of the summer the effects of the sun add to the fatigue.

Capri is a ferry ride and I don't think a guide would necessarily add to ton of information to just visiting the island. The grotto visit can be an adventure depending on weather, seas, crowds - see other threads about visiting the grotto in the forum. I think a decent guide book provides all context and details that Capri needs.

When you say a guide to the Amalfi coast you should clarify what exactly you're looking for. The travel logistics to the coast - even from Sorrento - can be challenging. From Sorrento it is bus, taxi or ferry to the coast along with everyone else looking to do the exact same thing. If your guide is providing transportation for you and your group as well as being a guide and clearing the way for you then I think a guide/driver in this context would be very helpful and smooth out what can be a hectic and chaotic day trip. Rick mentions several guides providing various levels of service and would absolutely trust his recommendations if you're early enough to get those reservations made.

You don't mention a time of year for your visit but the Italian coast has definite seasons and before mid-April after October Amalfi will be largely shuttered, the ferry service will be much reduced etc. In season it is very busy so get on reservations early as soon as your dates are set.

Once your itinerary is set - or maybe even before - grab some guide books and check out options and details and make some plans.

Have a great trip,
