Best Day/Overnight Trip to Egadi Islands from Trapani?

We would like to take a day (possibly one overnight) trip to Favignana and possibly other Egadi Islands. Has any one done this either with the ferries, or a private boat tour? Thank you!

On a free afternoon of the RS Sicily tour, a number of us took the ferry to Favignana for a few hours. It was fine, but unless you are a beach person an hour or 2 was enough for me.

I regret the day I spent going to the Egadi Islands when there was much of Sicily I didn't have time for during my 17-18 day trip. I had failed to account for the fact that reviews of places with uncrowded beaches are likely to be very high in Europe because of sun-starved northern Europeans and the population density in western Europe. The beaches are, indeed, uncrowded, and some are sandy; I don't know whether the uncrowded + sandy combination exists these days. Just be sure beach time is important enough to you that you're willing to give up at least one full day of traditional sightseeing time; Sicily has many wonderful, and scattered, sights.

I don't recall any difficulty with the ferries, but I wonder whether it would be smart to get tickets in advance. I don't think I did, but I was visiting in June, and it was 9 years ago.

This website has some possibly-useful information about Favignana:
