Best day of the week to visit Rome?

We are four ladies traveling to Italy (first time for most of us) from April 16 - May 3, 2014 for an 18 day vacation traveling throughout Italy. Our flights are booked and lodging arranged in Venice and Vernazza. Our itinerary currently is:

Fly into Venice (1 night only since this city was not a priority but found good flight connections)
4 nights in Vernazza in Cinque Terre (hope to do lots of walking between villages and enjoy a great Easter Sunday)
3 nights Florence area (need ideas where to stay, will not have a car but want to visit Tuscany, Assisi, etc )
3 nights Rome (want to see main sites considering lodging in the Prati area)
5 nights in the Naples area (need ideas for best central spot for visiting Capri, Ischia, Pompeii, Sorento, Almalfi coast, what else? We fly out of Naples and want to stay in the same place all 5 nights)

We have the flexibility of rearranging and being in Rome to include a Wednesday since I understand the Pope holds an audience every Wednesday. Any suggestions if that would be a good change to consider or is the weekend better?. Any other thoughts or suggestions are welcome about our plans.

Looks like a good plan, although I have to say I LOVE Venice and am sorry you won't see more of her. In the CT, get off the lower trail and head to the Sentiero Rosso up high to get amazing views and escape some of the crowds. There is a bus in Manarola that will take you up to a starting point and you can hike to Corniglia then take the train back. I wrote about this hike last year in my blog. You can also take daytrips to Portofino or other locales in Liguria. Enjoy! It is a fantastic place!

Ah, Rome, 3 nights is just a good start, but Prati is a wonderful choice.

Rather than Naples for 5 nights, try to stay in Sorrento. It is very nice, easy to navigate, and easy to get to all the places you want to go. The Amalfi Coast is a long haul from Naples, but easy from Sorrento. If your flight isn't too early you can take a bus from Sorrento right to the Naples airport.

One thought on Tuscany/Florence: Assisi is not in Tuscany and is kind of far for a day trip. If you only have 3 nights there and no car, spend one-and-a-half days in Florence itself (arrival day and one other) and daytrip to Siena or Volterra for the other. It will give you a taste of a Tuscan hilltown in the limited time you have.

Our flight leaves early at 6:35. Do you know if transportation is available that early to get to Naples in time....possibly even a private driver?
