Best Cinque Terra town for beach access.

If we are staying in the Cinque Terra and would like to be able to go to a beach, but not the touristy packed beach in Monterosso, which town would be the best option to stay in? We would like to be able to stay in town and be able to walk to a beach, or have easy access. Doesn't need to be a big beach, just a nice place to lie in the sun and swim.

Monterosso is the only village at the Cinque Terre that has something resembling a beach.
If it doesn't suit you then you need to go to another town not part of the Cinque Terre. Levanto, Bonassola, Framura, Deiva, Moneglia, all have a beach. They are not as crowded as the Cinque Terre provided it's not July or August.

stay in monterosso,, then you can take the hike down to the last of the five towns, and take the train back to monterosso. i would not recommend you try the sardine speciality, too fishy and salty and oilly. nick from santa cruz

Not a beach but one of the more interesting places where I saw quite a number of people swimming was right off the rocks in Manarola's harbor. They form sort of a protective little cove around these deep azure pools, and it looked like fun. Not good for wading, however.

Otherwise, the biggest 2 beaches are in Monterosso.

Thanks, how far is Levanto from the "main" five towns of the Cinque Terra? I might just try the sardines!

Stephen,

how far is Levanto from the "main" five towns of the Cinque Terra?

Levanto is an easy train ride from CT. It takes 5 minutes from Monterosso or 15-20 minutes from Riomaggiore.

There is a beach called Guvano in Corniglia. If you stay in Corniglia walk or take a shuttle bus to the train station, go to the old railroad tunnel, walk through the tunnel and you will get to the secluded beach Guvano. It used to be cloth optional or maybe still is. If you stay somewhere else in Cinque Terre take a train to Corniglia.
