Verona is excellent. Also Trento and Bolzano. These two because they were part of Austria until 1919, thus very traditional.

Definitely not the one in Piazza Santa Croce in Florence or the one in Piazza Navona in Rome…we visited both this past December…very disappointing. The only nice thing about the Piazza Navona market was the carousel for our grandchildren…the rest was mostly kiosks selling inexpensive Chinese goods.
Northern Italy might have better ones since it is closer to the Baltic countries. Christmas markets are really more of a German/Austria/Switzerland tradition, I think. Hopefully others who have attended good ones will chime in.

Santa Croce in Florence and Piazza Novanna in Rome both not worth the time. There was one stand in Piazza Novanna that had some hand made La Befana dolls. But other than that, the best thing about that market was the roasted chestnuts we enjoyed while we walked around the loop. As for Santa Croce, we attended mass and then tried to walk through the market. It was so crowded we could not get away from there fast enough. I wish we had traveled north to Bolzano but we did not have enough time. Enjoy.

There are some lovely Christmas markets in places like Bolzano, Trento, Verona, Milan, and Florence, but if you're up for something a little different, there are also some really unique holiday events happening across the country. For example, Salerno has a magical light installation and holiday markets, and in Polignano a Mare the Christmas vibe is full-on with food, music and local crafts. The nativity scene in Sicily and the Gubbio Christmas tree in the Umbria region are also very popular.

Arezzo goes all out playing lights on the Grand Piazza and filling the square with a market and ice rink.

I've heard good things about Siena's more local faire but I had also heard good things about Florence, but we've had a disappointed review in this thread. Siena's Mercato del Campo was only December 6-8 last year so check the dates since it doesn't seem to be one of those month long markets.

Sounds amazing, have a great time,
