Best choices for purchasing tickets Capitoline Museum, Rome

We have a private tour set up in Rome on a Thursday in Sept. 9:30 to 12:30 - Forum and Palantine Hill. I know my sister will want to do some photography also so figure we'll be done 12:30/1ish. I thought that we would grab some very casual lunch and then go to the Capitoline Museum for a few hours before a trip back to our airbb and a shower and early-ish dinner reservations nearby to airbb. I sort of remember they are all 'in a line' as it were? That this progression makes sense. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Also.. we already purchased Borghese timed tickets for 3 days after that and Palazzo Barberini tickets the day before. I saw that you could buy a card for multiple museums but suspect we'll be pretty full up as we are also scheduled for the Vatican museum the following week - and we love wandering in and out of churches and ready city sites.

Advice - should we just buy 4 adult price tickets at EU 17 each or is there a better idea to be had for more value.

Lastly, just advice on schedule - with the 12:30 end to our tour on the Palantine - reasonable to get something super casual to eat and get to a 14:00 or 14:30 museum entry? Otherwise, I was thinking...maybe better to just purchase there at the window??

Thanks for all opinions.

The Capitoline Museum is at the opposite end of the Forum from the Colosseum and overlooks the Forum. Sure—you could grab a quick lunch in the area near the museum as there are a few cafes just below the Capitoline Hill. I’ve been to the museum many times and never had a problem getting tickets and they are not timed. I’ve never seen the museum crowded. You can use the Roma Pass at the museum, so you’ll have to decide if purchasing that is of value to you.

On the website...to purchase them online, they are 'timed' tickets - so I was hesitant.

Ah, I see. Then to answer your question, a 1400-1430 entrance time may be doable if you end your Forum/Palatine tour at 12:30 and want to grab a bite to eat. I’d opt for purchasing them at the window, though, to give myself flexibility. I never waited more than 5 minutes to purchase tickets.

In September, I walked up and was able to get right in, even with all the covid measures in place. Whether a pass works for you or not, you just need to do the math, I do not think that for the Capitoline Museum a pass would offer any advantage for entry.

As for lunch, there really is nothing great right around the forum and the Capitoline museum. I might be tempted to wander over to the Jewish Quarter and find something there, even if it meant backtracking. The other option would be closer to Campo di Fiori and some of the bakeries for Pizza a Taglio.

Thank you each for your answers. I am convinced that this is a ticket we will buy at the window. Much appreciated.

@ebean_nyc, thanks for asking this. I’ll be there in October and will follow the advice just to wait and buy at the window as I’m not sure of my timing.
