Best/Cheapest Private Car from FCO to Rome

Hi All!

My friend and I will be traveling to Rome in 9 days and we would like to hire a private car to take us from the airport to our hotel that is by the Trevi Fountain. Any recommendations that won't break the bank? I do have one quote and it is 100 Euros for roundtrip. I was just wondering if there is a better price?

Also anything sites that are hands down things to see? We know about the Colosseum and the Borghese Gallery. Any guidance is appreciated! :)

Take a taxi, it is reliable, affordable and readily available. If this is your first trip to Rome the Vatican is a must. But I recommend Ricks tour guide.

Have you asked your hotel for a recommendation for a car service?

R/T for 100euro sounds about right. ( If I recall correctly the regulated taxi fee is 48 euro one way from FCO to your area --- someone else here will know for sure)

I too put the Vatican ( St Peters) in the "MUST SEE" category.

We paid around €50.plus tip.
The hotel quoted us €100 for same service.

There is so much more to Roma than the Colosseo, Vatican, and Borghese! Get a good guidebook (the guy that sponsors this Forum writes a fine one), and also search the Forum as this has been discussed a lot.

Le Domus Romane at Palazzo Valentini is terrific, but you must plan ahead as there are few English tours. Walk up the Gianicolo to see the view of Roma, especially later in the day when the sun is in the west. Seek out the Caravaggios (if you like art) in many churches where they can be seen at no cost. Check out Testaccio and eat at Pizzeria da Remo. Walk up the Aventine and see the views from the Knights of Malta keyhole and the Giardino degli Aranci. Walk (or bike) the Appia Antica. Stop in almost any church and be amazed, but make a point to go to San Clemente, near the Colosseo.

100 euros round trip is about right. The last 2 times I’ve paid about 50 one way. Taxi is fixed at 48 so for 2 euros more I prefer a private car. No waiting in a queue, no risk of being ripped off. Just look for the sign with your name and go. I used Rome Shuttle Limo.

The Pantheon and the Forum are my top choices of the super-popular sights.

Capitoline Museum is also a highlight.

Then strolling the Pantheon/Piazza Navona/Campo di Fiori area.

Finally, San Clemente is a church where you can enter and see a Middle Ages church (still used, like plenty of others) then go downstairs and and see the ruins below (4th century church then another layer down is ancient Roman times). It’s a fascination look at history.

I like your way of thinking. After a long flight, some jet lag, perhaps not being familiar with the area, there is nothing better than having a private driver meet you inside the terminal and whisk you to the hotel. No fending off "independent" cabs, waiting in the regular taxi line, or just having a "lost" feeling. It is not the cheapest way, but it is definitely the best. We can not say enough good things about Rome Cabs. It is a private car service (not a cab company) but only cost about 10 Euro more than a regular taxi. We always use them and have always been very pleased. Go to romecabs.com and see what you think. We always send an email and they answer us with a quote within 24 hours. You do have to pay cash (Euros) at the end of the journey but not in advance. So far as having the hotel arrange a car for you, unless you've dealt with that hotel before and have had them arrange it before, you may wind up with a regular taxi, a real car service, or the desk clerk's brother in-law. We had an in-law once for a trip from the hotel to the airport, but it worked out well as there were four of us and only one in-law.

I contacted Rome Cabs first, they didn’t have any car available, and recommended Rome Chaffeurs who were excellent.
