You might want to check out the romapass. It's a three day card that gives free access to the first two sites visited and reduced admission to all other sites covered by the card. It also gives you free transportation for the three days of the cards validity. The card starts the first time you use it, either for transport or at a site. It expires at midnight of the third day, not three 24 hour periods. The colosseum is a combo site and you have two consecutive days during the validity of the pass to visit all three and have it count as one admission. You can only visit each site one time. The Vatican museums are not included with this pass. Transport to and from the airport is not included in the pass. The cost is 30 euros so add up the costs of the sites you will visit to see if this pass will save you any money.
