Best Car Rentals

Which are the recommnended car rental companies to use in Italy when drop off is different from pick up station? We need a car for 3-6 days beginning in Pisa and ending in Salerno (or Naples).

I know I should book from the US but is Auto Europe better than Hertz or Avis or National or Alamo (not sure there even is Alamo )

We just want a little tiny car to get us from point a to point b

diane,
i liked europacar the best, but autoeurope was also good. i would suggest you pick-up your car in a city location instead of an airport. the airport locations charge a 20% fee while the other places do not. i have often taken cars from the main rail stations in roma and milano minus the big tax. however, shop around and take the best inclusive price.

I like Auto Europe because they offer great prices and flexibility. I also feel they know Europe better than the agents for Hertz etc. Once I called Hertz and the girl didn't know where Austria was. A couple of years ago we decided the car was a hassle so we just called Auto Europe toll free and they made sure there were no charges for early returns. If you decide to add a day when you're abroad you call them and you get the same pricing. I was going to rent a car in downtown Pisa but after reading many writers stories of large fines for mistakenly driving in the historic parts of Pisa, etc I choose not to pick up downtown.

I would go with autoeurope. They have a toll-free number to call and reserving is easy. Rates were good and you can pick the size auto you want. Have used them several times with no problems at all.
