Best Beach Towns Near Rome?

We are spending our honeymoon in Italy and will be flying into Rome the end of May. We were thinking about heading down to Amalfi right away for a few nights but the travels seem to far.
What beach/coastal towns would you recommend for us to stay at for 2-3 nights that are closer to Rome?
After these first few nights, we plan on heading to Florence, then Lake Como, then Switzerland.
We would appreciate any recommendations!
FYI: We will not have a car.

It seems a pity to head south when your destination is north. Have a look at the beach resorts nearer Flornce - Viarggio or Forte dei Marmi. Both accessible by train, Forte is easier.

Your itinerary, unless you go down to Naples area, is in the interior of Italy. The beach towns near Rome are nothing to write home about, and frankly May is not beach season, therefore, unless it is an unusually hot weekend, those places will be kind of dead. Near Rome, the is Ostia Lido or, a bit farther north, Santa Marinella, both of which have their beach walking distance from their respective train stations. West of Florence, on the coast, there is Viareggio (about 90 min by train). Further north there is Forte dei Marmi, which is more upscale, but the station is not exactly walking distance from the beach or the town center so you would need a bus or a taxi to take you for the last couple of km.

Give us more description of what you are looking for, as I’ve learned people’s definition of “beach” can vary widely. It’s early in the season and seas are still quite cold in late May. Your best bet will be somewhere on the train line from Florence.
