Thinking of Rapallo or Santa Magherita. Coming from a Milan. Interested in hikes and seaside walks. Will use ferries and trains to see close by towns and maybe a daytrip to the CT. Welcome hotel and restaurant recommendations. Thanks.

I'd suggest staying closer to the Cinque Terre towns as there are lots of opportunities for "hikes & seaside walks". One location you might consider is Levanto, which is just north of the C.T. (about 5 minutes by train). From Monterosso you can take the ferry to most of the five towns (not Corniglia) or even to Porto Venere. From Levanto you can hike the old railway line to Bonassola or further, or hike to Monterosso (have dinner at one of the nice restaurants there and then take the train back to Levanto). There are good beaches in both Levanto and Monterosso, should you want to swim or get a tan.
