Ciao! We're traveling to the Abruzzo region in the second week of June and I'm debating a good base for 6 nights. Originally, we wanted to stay on the coast, but I think the towns may be more commercialized than I thought (meaning more modern beach club spot vs quaint fishing village). Am I correct in that observation? We're now looking at staying inland towards the mountain towns. Honestly, having a hard time getting the lay of the land from reading articles!
-We will have a car
-We are leisurely travelers meaning we like to meander, eat, take it all in and not just rush to see everything and check the boxes. Ideal day spent exploring a town or going on a hike and then laying by the pool or water. Debating if by staying in a mountain town, will I miss afternoon pool time?
-My husband and I would love to do an easy hike or two (3-4 hrs round trip).
-We do want to take at least a day visit to a trabbocho
-If staying in a town, it would be fantastic to be able to walk to a few restaurants for dinner and keep the car parked at night
-Not interested in a big city or Pescara
Towns I looked at: Sulmono, Vasta, Scanno, Teramo. We also considered staying at Emidio Pepe since my husband works in italian wine.
Thoughts?
