Best area to stay in Milan for 2 days

I'm wondering if our best option for a hotel in Milan for just 2 nights would be near the Duomo, seems like it's a good central area to walk around and we 're flying home from MXP. We don't plan on seeing much as this is the end of a long trip and just want to relax a bit and at the very least have some great meals. Would love your input or suggestions, thank you!

We stayed at Hotel Duca di York for 2 nights- end of a long trip for us as well.
Really nice, about 5 min walk to Duomo, maybe 25-30 to Last Supper

Took a cab from Milano Centrale on arrival, then took a cab to Milano Cadorna (less than 10min) to catch the Malpensa Express.

Last year Milan was our last stay in Italy before flying home after a long tour and a few days at Lake Como/Varenna.
We stayed…and loved…Hotel Spadari Al Duomo…a RS recommended Hotel.
We also engaged Bella Milano Tours as private guides while there…wonderful and knowledge ladies…well worth the cost!
We went to Milan thinking there was not a lot to see or do…wrong…and we loved the people and Milan.
Several options getting to Airport…we booked a cab and had no problems.
There are a LOT of good to great restaurants in Milan.
Enjoy your travels…and Milan!

We have stayed in Milan twice, once near the Duomo and the other time near “The Last Supper.” Both were good locations but I give a plus to the one near “The Last Supper” as it seemed to have a more local atmosphere.
We stayed at Antica Locanda Leonardo. I do not remember the name of the one near the Duomo but we could hear noise late at night. It is a wonderful city, great dining.

I vote with Christine for Hotel Duca di York. I stayed there 1 night a number of years ago and returned last Fall for 2 nights. Comfortable room, very nice staff, excellent breakfast. I also really liked the location. It's also right across the street from the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana which has Raphael's preliminary cartoon/drawing for his School of Athens which is in the Vatican Museum as well as a room of Leonardo's Codex Atlanticus.

Totally agree with ChristineH and Pam. Wonderful hotel and great location. We stayed there in 2017 and happy to hear it is still in operation.

We had the hotel call a taxi for us
To Milano Cadorna station where you catch the Malpensa Express direct to the airport
About a 10 min cab ride- probably less than 10 euros (don’t remember)

Malpensa Express takes just about an hour
We were there in plenty of time

Malpensa Express runs about every 30 min
Also runs from Milano Centrale - if you are staying closer to that station

ETA
We were advised to not take a taxi to MXP because traffic can be an issue

  • There are two train lines from downtown Milan to MXP. The fixes fare of cabs is 104 Euro (per car).
  • At least 3 different bus companies go from Milano Centrale to LIN; then there is the new metro line #4 from Dateo Station to LIN. LINate is so close to the city center that cabs and shared vans do the run in 30 minutes, or less.
  • I don't know much about the Buses from Milano Centrale to BYG airport, but I bet they depart from Milano Centrale.

I guess a train is easier than buses, but reaching all Milan's 3 airports is not difficult by bus. You simply walk along the platform on the left of the main station and get on the first bus in line with "Linate" or "Orio" or "Malpensa" written above the driver's seat.
