Hi there! My husband and I are planning a trip to Italy in September and will be in Milan for 2 nights. We are wondering which area we should stay in. We don't mind walking to get to the central area, but we'd like a safe, nice area. I got a great rate from the Trentina hotel but it is in the Citta Studi area and a 45 minute walk from the Duomo. Does anyone know if this is a good area? Thanks in advance for any help!
Hello Deseree,
My family and myself have stayed twice at the Hotel Duca di York which is about a 5 minute walk to the Duomo- where you have easy access to transportation to take you to view the Last Supper and all the exciting trappings in and around the Piazza Duomo. The staff is excellent, the rooms are clean and the breakfasts are satisfying. The prices are a little expensive, but for us its a good trade off for the reasons stated above. Check for specials, as they do sometimes have them. On our first trip to Milan, I asked the hotelier if it was safe to take my family out at night. He said "you're in the middle of the banking area of Milano, there is no safer place!". We ventured out to Piazza Duomo at about 10pm, and were struck by the spectacular iluminated duomo and the impromtu music which had attracted a crowd and people were dancing. The Milanese know how to live- as this was on a work night.
Regards,
David
