Best and cheapest way for 4 seniors to travel with luggage from Sorrento to Amalfi

We are 4 adults in our 60's and are travelling from our location in Sorrento to our airbnb in Amalfi. We will be carrying one suitcase and a backpack each.
I understand the SITA buses are quite packed so we might not be able to get on with our luggage. Is there any other fairly comfortable way of travelling by road without hiring a private limo because those seem to be very expensive.

How else could you travel by road but by bus or private car?

You could rent scooters I guess, but with a large suitcase I don't think you can do that either.

Perhaps your host could collect you?

I don't know if that would be best or cheapest

Myself and my 2 sisters used Sorrento as a home base and did day trips to the coast via the SITA bus. Very easy to do but we went in November during the off season. And we travel very light and our suitcase is very tiny. So it sounds like you are doing the same.
My B&B I stayed in was a wealth of knowledge for me and if you booked direct as I do, you can email them.
Sorrento is such a lovely place but so is Amalfi.

Since there are 4 of you, sharing the cost of a driver may not be bad but I found the bus very easy off season! But you don't need a limo but a good reliable driver. I personally would go via bus since you are traveling light. Figure out the cost of a driver and you might be surprised that a van is not bad when split.
Maybe others could help with reliable van service.

Depending on time of year, the ferry from Sorrento to Amalfi might be another option.

If you do take a bus, you’ll need to store under the bus any luggage that doesn’t fit under your seat or on the small overhead shelf. That’s common practice on Pullman-style buses, as they have very limited storage space inside. Amalfi is the last stop on that bus route, so there are no concerns about having to rush off the bus and grab your luggage from underneath during a short stop along the route.

Bus is it. You can fit on. Throw you luggage under the bus, plenty of room. The only other option is a driver and you indicated you didn't want that.

We paid a driver €100 plus tip last September to transport us from Sorrento to the Naples airport so it would cost you much less than that. We used See Sorrento, Marcello Maresca.

Thank you so much everyone for your tips. The transfer company for 80.00 Euros sounds perfect and just what I was looking for. Thanks a lot

Do think about whether your bags will fit in a standard car trunk. Four people fill a sedan, even a Mercedes. That's with one of them cramped in the center of the back seat. I haven't seen much of Amalfi, but you should check how close to the B&B the car can drive. Google Maps, or the location owner. Make plans now for your departure, if you have a plane or train to meet without fail.

You don't say how you are getting to Sorrento. If you will be coming through either the Naples airport, Naples train station, or just being in Naples, you might well find a car service or taxi from Naples to your lodging in Amalfi is the best bet. Needs to be big enough but not necessarily a "limo". Will save you considerable time and hassle, and probably not cost so much when you divide the cost by four people. So much nicer way to quickly start your enjoyment of the Amalfi Coast. If it saved you all two hours of lugging bags and dealing with commuter trains and buses, what would that be worth to you?

We are travelling by train from Florence to Naples and then by Circumvesuviana train from the same Naples train station to Sorrento. Our B&B is very close to the Sorrento train station so I think we should be fine. Travelling by train with one bag each is no problem but it is the buses on the Amalfi coast that concern me hence the need to travel by car with our baggage.

I think our 4 pieces of luggage should fit into a standard sedan trunk but I am not sure about the cars in Italy and will check when we are there. However Euro 80 from Sorrento to Amalfi sounds reasonable to me but will check with our host in Sorrento if he has any other suggestions.

We just wanted to make sure you know that the Circumvesuviana is not a long-distance train with baggage racks near one end. It's a stuffy commuter service with tiny, tiny racks high over each seat, but you can't get to the seats because they are already full. So you may be standing with your luggage beside you. You didn't give the month of travel. Maybe it's better in September and October than it was for us in May. Those racks I'm talking about won't even hold a "legal" carryon. They might hold a 2" legal case.

The Circumvesuviana train is a pain with luggage. We had only roll-aboards and small backpacks, and the only solution was to stand the entire trip with backpacks to the wall and hands on the roll-boards. To return to Naples our B&B arranged a driver for about 100 euro, door to door. Split among four people, that sounds like a no brainer to me.

I think going by boat from Sorrento to Amalfi by boat is the best and nicest option.

nicest option.

They may not be able to do that if they're not traveling during months the boats are running.

As far as getting TO Sorrento in the first place, I'm probably in the minority but we didn't think the Circumvesuviana was as bad as all that. Heck, we had to stand squished together like sardines on a train from Brussels to Brugge last spring. There is also an express train from Naples to Sorrento IF it's still running at whatever dates this trip is planned for.

You guys are all amazing. I checked out the express train and it is called the Campania express train and is probably just what we need. I have to check the times of the train but since it is new and expensive it is practically empty and will suit us perfectly.
