followed my own advice and looked at past posts: there is a post 8/06/07: "help cheapest, etc."
can't find mine, so will repeat: i booked feb for a trip in april, 1083.00, 2 week stay, thru a travel agent local.....in may i happened to look up www.orbitz, same flight, day, time...850.00..called the travel agency, got a 240.00 "voucher"..it is a matter of demand at the given time: no reward for early booking.june is the start of the tourist season.orbitz has this thing you can sign up for that will alert you when a fare gets to what u want to spend..who knows..i for one was disapointed not only that i got "punished" for booking early, but my travel "agent" didn't catch when the price dropped by 250.00 , and didn't think it was important to let me know..so am kinda jaded by the whole airline thing, as well as travel agents.

Next January or February is when the airlines will start looking at how their inventory is going. Use multiple search engines, like orbitz, and sign up for those fare alerts Jim mentioned. And use the feature that allows other nearby airports....you might save money flying out of Newark, for example. The best time to jump on a price is when it hits the mark you think you can afford. If you wait until late, you may find a bargain....or you may end up paying a lot more. I was intrigued to find out Jim could get a price in May for a trip taken the previous April!

I bought tickets for my family from DEN to FCO in January. We got tickets via IAD both ways for $681.80 each. There are usually fare sales in January.

A site worth using is www.Yapta.com (Your amazing personal travel agent). After we booked tickets to Hawaii, we had Yapta track our flights. A week after we booked on United we got an e-mail from Yapta saying our fare went down $40 per ticket (for a total of $80 savings). We immediately called United and they issued us a voucher for the change in fare. We now have $80 to use towards a future flight.

You will be going in high season so don't be surprised if you pay close to $1000.00 round trip. We got tickets through AAA for $850.00 for October.

Te season when you go is very important.Airlines have a few months per year when they chance the price, up or down. At the begining of Oct they start dropping the price, and it goes until about Dec, 12th.
In June they start raising the price.Last year I went to France and got a good deal, but I left on May, the 26th and came back in a month.
If you can leave a few days before June, 1, you might get a deal.
I'm going to Rome on Sept, 8th, coming back thru Milan on oct, 9th and I paid $850 from Cleveland.
Try onetravel.com. Tickets are nonrefundable, but i got great deals all the time. Also you can buy a multi city ticket with no extra charge. I did that now, stop over in NYC for 5 days, the price was the same without stop over.
Good Luck!
