Best 10-12 day itinerary for NE Italy flying in and out of Venice?

On one trip we drove up the west side of Lake Garda, spending the night in Saló. We were the only Americans we saw in this toney lakefront town, just Italians and Germans.
We drove up into the Dolomites and spent several beautiful days in Ortisei, hiking in the mountains at the top of each sideline of the valley via gondolas and funiculars. Gorgeous scenery!
Then, when leaving the mountains, we stayed in Malcesine on the east side of Lake Garda, beautiful mountain view’s. You could head east to stay in Cortina.
We spent another trip in the Veneto and especially liked Bassano del Grappa and Vicenza.
We love Venice too and have been there three times. From there we drove to Bologna.

Finish with Venice at the end. You’ll have finished with the rental car, which you could pick up as soon as you land at the Venice airport at the beginning. By wrapping up in Venice, you’ll be poised to catch your flight home.

Next trip, consider flying into Venice, then driving over to Slovenia and/or Croatia. Come back, turn in the car, and have another Venice stay, short or long at the end.

Thank you all very much for your suggestions. I’m going to research oritisei. It sounds lovely. A few years ago we were in Croatia and Slovenia, so will probably just stay in Italy this time. Thanks for reminding me how hard it is to catch an early morning flight without staying right at the airport.
