Leaving Italy my wife and I have booked tickets for journeys on the Bernina express from Tirano to St Moritz, next day catching the Glacier Express from St Moritz to Zermatt. I have two questions, can we take our luggage on these trips? Does anyone know which is the best side of the trains to sit for optimum viewing, we have booked 1st class tickets on both train journeys?

Of course you can take your luggage. It's Switzerland and you're in the extra large touristy "windowed" cars in 1st class...I doubt there will be a bad view from any direction! But you'd probably get more answers from posting this question in the "West" section instead of the "Boot" section.
