Bernina Express Route Repairs

Due to construction work, the track between Poschiavo and Tirano will be closed from 1 to 3 April 2025. From 7 to 14 May 2025, the track between Pontresina and Poschiavo will also be impassable. Replacement buses are running.

The above info was copied from the Rhb website for the Bernina express route Tirano to St Moritz. When looking at the train route map and times, it appears this is about 3/4 of the route by bus. For those of you who might have done this route by train, does the bus follow near the tracks and have the same views? I happen to be traveling in this area the exact week of track repairs, would you forego the train trip? I already purchased tickets, but believe I can get a refund.

There are a few magnificent videos on youtube, shot from the driving cab of Bernina trains, both in summer and in winter. For example:

Have a look and probably you can reply yourself. Yes, the road is in the same landscape, but road and railway follow somewhat distant alignments on the south ramp. The challenge is keeping the railroad steepness within 7% (already very steep for a train, not too much for a car). Personally, I would consider the railroad as a better experience, but this because I am very fond of railroads.

I agree on the train over the car, but I realize after further research that the route will not be nearly as spectacular by car for 75% of the route, so I’m going to defer this experience for another trip, and just swallow the $150 cost of two tickets.

I found this video that included Bernina Express trip that had Busses involved from 2024. As we are doing our whole trip in Europe on Trains.... it appears we have to be prepared for snafu's.. I may have to see if they sell "Chill Pills" before we go. ;) -Bill
