Bernina Express

A friend and I are spending 2 weeks in Italy in September. After 2 nights in Varenna we are taking a regional train via Torino to St Moritz, spending the night, and returning to Milan via Torino on the Bernina Express. We can not figure out the cheapest way to pay for the Bernina. Is it included on the Eurorail or is it priced seperately. Also, we were wondering if there is a better side on which to sit.

Do you mean via Tirano and not Torino? Torino is in the NW part of Italy and not in the direction of St. Mortiz. Tirano is where you catch the Bernina Express.

Here's the scoop on Eurail pass holders for the Bernina Express copied from the Eurail website.

"Eurail Passes are valid on the entire Bernina-Express journey. Seat reservation (including a supplement) for both train and bus is compulsory. Eurail Pass holders must have a Pass valid for Switzerland. Although the Bernina Express partly runs through Italy, a Pass for Italy is not required."
