I know Citta Alta is up on a hill, but once you are there is it very hilly? We may be traveling with an 85 year old who would have trouble with steep hills. Thanks.
I spent a rainy day in Bergamo Alta last year and it was easy walking for the most part. The Citta Alta is fairly flat with slight inclines/declines along the main streets. There are some nice cafes to stop for a rest, or to wait while someone goes walking.
Backing up Zoe's post here: once you're up there, it's fairly flat. It does have a fair amount of cobbles and other uneven surfaces so wear good, sturdy shoes, and walk carefully with your Senior so he/she doesn't trip.
We were in La Citta Alta last year and agree with the previous posters. It's fairly flat and easy to walk around.
Bergamo was one of my favorite cities and hope to return.
Buon viaggio,
They seem serious about their commitment to rough, traditional cobbles, but you'll usually find a small strip of more comfortable paving.
Thank you for your comments. It was just the info I was looking for!
