Bergamo, Città Alta or Città Bassa?

If you stay in the Città Bassa you will be commuting to the Città Alta, where the important things to visit are, every day for 3 days. If you stay in the Città Alta you will do that commute only twice: when you arrive, and when you depart (to come from and to go to the station). I would stay in the Città Alta.

Hi Donna, I agree with Roberto. I just took a taxi from the train station to arrive up at Citta Alta which was nice since it was a special school day. At Bergamo I stayed in two different hotels near each other. I specifically stayed at the Gombit Hotel two nights because they had refunded my money on my non-refundable reservation in 2020. I definitely wanted to support them in 2022 in appreciation! It’s a remodeled glamorous hotel adjacent to the Citta Alta Gombit Tower - a special first class experience and nicer than most of my other hotels. My first night, I also stayed at Hotel Piazza Vecchia. Although more modest, my room was still spacious, and the breakfast was also very good.

My adult daughter & I will be staying at the Gombit again this year.

I have been to Bergamo twice and have stayed in both parts of the city. It is the Alta that is most unusual. The Bassa is quite pleasant but more like other Italian cities.

I would stay in the Alta.

I’d stay in Città Alta. Not that it’s really a pain to get from one to the other, honestly, but I wouldn’t go so far as to take a taxi from one to the other as one commenter here has done.
