Has anyone stayed in Bergamo? We are looking at staying here for 2 nights. Interested in cooking class and a wine tour. Also cafes,local cuisine and walking to see local sights. Should we stay in citta alta or citta Bassa? We like to stay in aibnb rentals.

We stayed in Bergamo for three nights in 2013, at Casa Mario Lupo, a small B&B that is actually a couple of apartments. The one we had was huge. We really enjoyed it. Definitely stay in the upper town. That's the historic part. As for activities, go to the TI. They have an excellent booklet. Can't help you on cooking class or wine tour, but can recommend Da Mimmo for dinner. If you're lucky, they'll have live music.
A lot of Bergamo's charm is to be experienced just by wandering around. BTW, very few American tourists.
