On our next trip to Italy (in September), we are considering spending about 3 days in Bergamo and vicinity. Is that worth it, are there things to see in Bergamo and its vicinity that is accessible with public transport? Is 3 days abour right. Any info will help.
Thank you.

Bergamo is charming. We spent three nights there last year. It's definitely not a major tourist destination and isn't packed with top-tier sites. But if you like just wandering around and exploring a very beautiful hilltop town, Bergamo is great. I can almost guarantee that you won't hear any American accents, and very little English spoken by tourists.
The historic center is the upper town and to do most daytrips via public transportation, you have to get down to the lower town first.
Here are some photos of our time there, in case you're interested: Bergamo in May 2013
Bergamo is beautiful. Is there public transportation from the airport into the city center?
We went to Bergamo about 10 years ago to run the marathon. The upper town is charming, but I think that 2 days may be enough.

I love Bergamo! The Citta Alta has the best air I've ever breathed outside of the Alps. Some small museums and a great old city center, fabulous food. The shuttle from the train station to the upper town runs about every 10-15 minutes. There is a slightly less frequent bus to/from the airport (stops at Citta Alta).
