Traveling next April to Italy with a group tour. Will have extra time at the end- would like to visit Benevento and Naples. Our tour ends at Monte Cassino. Any suggestions for places to stay? Should we rent a car or train? Thanks!

Benevento has lots of train/bus connections to other towns. Try the Strega liqueur. Benevento is more of a business town, so hotels tend to lack character. The Hotel President is recommended by friends of mine. Benevento also has a good museum and some Roman ruins. If you have time, I recommend the Amalfi Coast from Sorrento (bus is best for this).

thanks! We are going to the Amalfi coast as part of a 2 week tour then we will have about 4-5 days on our own. My grnadfather came from Benevento so I want to spend at least a day there. Have you been to any other hill towns north of Naples?
