Hello, In May 2014 I am planning to travel from Bellagio to Vernazza (Cinque Terre) by train, on a Sunday. From my research, it seems I will get a train from Varenna to Milan, and from Milan to Monterroso. While it looks to take around 5 hours total, it looks doable. Does anyone know if this is the best way to make this trip, and most importantly, if the train schedules on Sundays change, and make this trip either more difficult or impossible. Thanks for your help. Gary
I took the train from Vernazza to Varenna and is was easy. There is no better way to make the trip. I can't help you regarding the schedule.
If you do a Varenna-Monterosso search on trenitalia.com for both a Sunday and a Monday this month, you'll see that there's a choice of 10 trains each day. So Sunday travel shouldn't be a problem next May unless they radically change the schedules, which is unlikely. According to trenitalia, the fastest trains make the journey in 4 hours 25 minutes.
Thank you for your suggestions. Looks like I'm on the right track, and I'll do fine with Sunday travel. Cheers.
