My husband and I are spending a few days in Bellaggio and I would like to take a day trip into Switzerland. Any suggestions for town to visit and how to get there? This is my first trip to Europe so lots of details would be helpful

Ferry to Menaggio, bus to Lake Lugano.

I usually stay in Menaggio, so that I can visit Lugano (Switzerland) just 15 miles away. By car it takes me about 40 min, the bus might take a bit longer. To go from Bellagio follow Suki’s advice.
The bus stop in Menaggio is on Piazza Garibaldi, the main piazza on the lake. The ferry drops you off at the Embarcadero near the Grand hotel Menaggio, about 5 min walk south of Piazza Garibaldi. I’ve never taken the bus to Lugano, but I’ve seen it in Lugano and the last stop in Lugano is where I generally park my car, near the city swimming center. From there to the historic center of Lugano it is about 10-15 min walk, passing in front of the park at the Palacongressi (convention center).
You’ll enjoy Lugano, although you’ll probably prefer the prices on the Italian side of the border.
