Thinking of doing a day trip from Bellagio to Como in early September. Looks like the Ferry service on Lake Como will not accomidate that senario. Is that correct?

Shouldn't be a problem. We took the ferry from Varenna to Como & back mid-Sept last year without a problem. Weather was 33C.

Why not? They have fast boats that can get you there in 45 min.

The ferry will still be running in September, so you can definitely take the ferry to Como.
We opted to take the bus on this route one misty day (early October), and enjoyed a birdseye view of the lake as the road runs high along the mountain. We considered taking the ferry back to Bellagio but my mom was cold and preferred going on the bus since it was raining.
We also enjoyed a delicious pizza at Locanda BarbaRossa in Como; it was the best pizza of our entire trip!
