We will be returning to Venice after a trip to Croatia and have 3 day days before we return to states from Milan. Been to Como and loved it. Would like to return there but will not have a car. I'm looking for ideas. Thinking of going to Milan first then taking a train. Is there an easier way? Any a

Nothing is easier than the train, IMO. I would find Varenna easier than Bellagio, though, since you do not have to take the ferry to get there.

I am exploring modestly priced hotel options for Bellagio and came across two on Trip Advisor that seem fine. Anyone have experience with either of these? We will not have a car -- will be traveling via train from Milan to Varenna, then taking the ferry across to Bellagio.

Stresa is also about 45 minutes by train from Milan -- on Lake Maggiore. It is a lovely town and the islands can be accessed by ferry -- you can tour the Boremeo Palace and gardens.
