beehive hotel/Rome in August

Can anyone advise about The Beehive in Rome during hot August? We plan to be in Rome for 10 days in mid-August and have read nothing but wonderful things about The Beehive from RS and Lonely Planet. And their website is terrific. The Beehive doesn't offer air-conditioning tho'and we're wondering if the rooms would still comfortable or stuffy/unbearable? Grazie.

I was in Rome the end of October and it was hot and sticky. So, I can only imagine what it would be in August. I would not have been able to sleep if I didn't have AC.

I have been in Rome during Aug and I am very glad we had air cond. Sleep would have been close to impossible otherwise. Now that I too am on a tight travel budget I am going to buy a small fan in Europe and take it around saving lots in euros. Then just leave it at my last stop for the next person. A thought to consider.

I can't imagine being without a/c in August. Rome can be a very loud city so I'm not sure how well you will sleep with windows open. Most buildings were built long before considerations needed to be made for the noise of vespas and cars.

Hi I stayed at the Beehive the last week of May in 06. It was sticky hot, at least 30 if not higher! I stayed in the dorm at the beehive and it was perfectly comfortable. The dorm room has a ceiling fan. I was able to see the other rooms, most had windows and did not seem overly hot. The whole place from what I remeber is quite cool, throught the place there is nice tiled floor which is very cool and nice in the hot weather. I never felt uncomfortable, the basement that has the computer, cafe, hangout area is cooler than upstairs. Another reason I love the beehive is the garden, I would sightsee during the morning and when it got to hot in the afternoon I would come back and read in the garden it was very shaded and nice. I am defiently someone who needs airconditioning, but I was totally comfortable at the beehive, I love this place defiently book it. If you have more questions send me a message.

Thanks everyone for your help. I'll email the folks at The Beehive and see if there are fans in each of the rooms. I was intrigued by their garden, cafe and yoga studio, which they offer to their guests as a respite from 'the chaos of Rome'. Grazie tutti.

We stayed at the beehive in early to mid Nov 2007. The outside garden has been under construction for quite some time, w/scaffolding completely covering the entire outside area. Not much if any work was seen being done at that time. It didn't distract from the inner beauty of the beehive but the outside area was a work in progress. You may want to contact them if this is a reason you want to stay there. Their old buzzard cat (Dagmar I think)is worth staying there for. Made for a very warm and comfy stay. Great food and nice happy hour.

Thanks for the info about construction in the garden area. Had no idea that they offered a happy hour, which sort of balances out the lack of access to the outdoor area! Grazie mille.
