Can anyone suggest a good family run BnB place in Florence for an elderly solo lady traveller. Around 60/70 E per night. Thanks.
Hi Katie, I can recommend one place - but they do not serve breakfast. They do however provide a small refrigerator in each room. There's a market down the street around the corner where you can buy breakfast items.
Hotel Il Bargelino.
Hi Katie,
I, also, stayed at Hotel il Bargellino (www.ilbargellino.com) and LOVED it. I stayed there this last September in the single room for a rate of 45 euro per night. I was surprised at how nice it was for that steal of a price. The owners were super friendly, kind, and eager to help. The hotel was beautifully decorated and very easy to find, only a few blocks, less that 5 minute walk from the train station - and centrally located to all the major sites. You mention that you're elderly so I should mention that I don't believe there's an elevator. But the single occupancy room is the first room up only one flight of stairs. The hotel also has a rooftop terrace for guests to enjoy. I was really pleased with this hotel and would readily recommend it. However, I hear it books quick, so you would need reserve well in advance. Have a wonderful trip!
If you are arriving in Florence by train, you may encounter a man by the name of Walter outside the tourist information office. We have stayed with him on two occasions and were completely satisfied with his rooms. There is no breakfast included but a bar is across the street where you will find the traditional Italian breakfast. Walter's rooms are two blocks from the Duomo and a ten minute walk to the train station--a very good location near major attractions. He will drive you to and from the train station at no cost to yourself.
Nice B&B in the traffic restricted area in the Santa Croce district in centre of Florence:

Modern building, on the last floor, with elevator, very friendly lady owner.
Hope it helps.
