Hello,
My grandparents were both born in Italy and I would like to obtain Italian citizenship. I do have records from my grandparents. I would like to be able to have an EU passport for myself and my sons. Is it an easy process? Would anyone have information to share?
Thank you very much!
Presuming you are American, contact the Italian Embassy in Washington or an Italian Consulate closest to where you live.
I don’t know where you live. The info linked below at the bottom is from the website of the Italian Consulate of San Francisco. Similar info is available in the websites of the Italian Consulate that has jurisdiction over your State. This is the list of Italian consulates in the US.

Thanks so much, Norma & Roberto!
I am so sorry I did not say we were from upstate NY. The consulate information is very helpful, Roberto. I will write to the consulate in Rochester, NY as that is where my grandparents settled after arriving from Italy. I was born there as well.
Norma, I was able to obtain an address for office in Forino, Italy on the Washington website!
Mille grazie!
I will let you know what I can find out! Very excited!
It's not an easy process for many people so you'll need a long term viewpoint. In my own case, a lazy Italian consulate official and the fact that I was divorced made the hurdles too daunting. If you are successful in obtaining Italian citizenship it will not include your sons. They will need to go through the citizenship process as well, though it may be simpler following yours. There are numerous websites with information on this subject, so keep searching.
My wife used this firm. Hassle free and fast. They will help you step by step to get the documents in Italy and in the US, and to submit it to the ministry website(via upload, Italy is actually more advanced than the US on some bureaucratic steps). It costs a few hundred dollars in fees but it is worth it in time savings and aggravation dealing with the bureaucracy of both countries.
